36 villages of Guimaras town to avail of DA's P2.7-M worth of livelihood projects

ILOILO CITY, Jan 20 (PNA) -– All the 36 villages of the municipality of Buenavista in Guimaras will benefit from the P2.7-M fund intended for various livelihood projects funded under the grassroots participatory budgeting process (GPBP) and implemented by the Department of Agriculture (DA).

The projects among others include cattle raising, swine raising, native chicken production, duck raising and goat raising for livestock and poultry. Also, recipients will receive calamansi and cashew seedlings, banana suckers and pakbet vegetable seeds.

The DA information and public affairs section (IPAS) said that the funds will be utilized to acquire ready-to-breed 14 heads of cattle and 77 heads of swine; 420 hens, 84 roster for native chicken production; 120 hens and 24 roster for duck raising and 15 ram and 140 bucks for goat raising.

For vegetable production six kilograms each for ampalaya and squash seeds, 12 kgs. of pole sitao, four kilograms each for okra and pechay and one kilogram of eggplant; 60 bags of organic fertilizer, 45 trowels, 45 spade, 45 tubs and nine containers of molasses will be purchased.

Moreover, a total of 12,200 seedlings of calamansi, 10,500 seedlings of cashew and 10,500 suckers of banana will be given to the identified first batch of beneficiaries.

DA regional technical director Joyce S. Wendam who is also the program focal person said that the projects were the ones proposed by recipients farmers association.

The beneficiaries will also undergo training to equip them with the technology and basic information, Wendam said.

GPBP, once known as bottom-up-budgeting (BUB) is an anti-poverty program of the current administration where the recipients themselves identify projects that could best respond to their needs.

The recipient local government unit, meantime, has allotted P486,000 as counterpart fund.

The first batch of beneficiaries shall pay in kind the stocks/inputs received form their respective farmer’s association on a scheme of one is to one to the next in-line beneficiaries. (PNA)
