Asian Cup: Japan's Konno to miss Jordan clash

MELBOURNE, Jan. 18 — Yasuyuki Konno will miss Japan's final Asian Cup Group D clash with Jordan on Tuesday, but the defending champions are hoping to have the versatile midfielder back before the end of the tournament.

Konno suffered a left hamstring injury in Japan's 1-0 win over Iraq in Brisbane on Friday after coming off the bench in the 64th minute to replace Gamba teammate Yasuhito Endo, who won his 150th cap.

"He (Konno) will have treatment and rehabilitation and we should have him back before the end of the tournament," Japan Football Association media officer Kazutake Nishizawa told reporters at Sunday's training session.

"He will have a separate training menu for a while, but he is not withdrawing from the squad."

Japan have six points from two games, and a draw against Jordan, who have three points, would be enough to send Javier Aguirre's men into the last eight. (PNA/Kyodo)
