Crowds now converging at UST, Quirino Grandstand

MANILA, Jan. 18 — With Pope Francis making two well anticipated appearances in the University of Sto. Tomas (UST) at Espana Boulevard and Quirino Grandstand, Rizal Park Sunday, hundreds of thousands of people are now slowly inching their way to the above-mentioned venues in an effort to catch a glimpse of the Holy Pontiff.

As early as 12:30 a.m., people, mostly youngsters, were seen making their way to side streets leading to UST.

Pope Francis is expected to arrive at UST between 9:30 a.m. to 10 a.m. to dialogue with the youth.

While those heading at the Quirino Grandstand start their trek as early as 11:30 p.m. Saturday, clogging UN Avenue, Orosa Street, and Roxas Boulevard and their side streets.

The Pontiff is expected to celebrate mass at the Quirino Grandstand around 3 p.m.

Estimates of the people now gathered at UST and Quirino Grandstand were conservatively placed at close to 400,000 to 700,000, with the crowds expected to grow bigger later in the day. (PNA)
