Tokyo stocks open higher on weaker yen, rebounding oil prices

TOKYO, Jan. 15 — tokyo stocks opened modestly higher early Thursday on rebounding crude oil prices and a weaker yen.

At 9:15 a.m., the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average rose 145.22 points, or 0.86 percent, from Wednesday to 16,941.18.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the tokyo Stock Exchange edged up 9.54 points, or 0.70 percent, to 1,367.52.

Major gainers were led by rubber, mining and utilities shares.(PNA/Xinhua)
