ILOILO CITY, Jan. 12 –- Iloilo Gov. Arthur Defensor, Sr. has lauded the recommendation of the Bureau of Correction (BuCor) to give clemency to about 200 inmates under the Parole and Probation as Pres. Benigno Aquino’s gift to Pope Francis when he visits the country.

Defensor said that giving of clemency to the aged and seriously ill inmates is a good gesture from the president.

”Giving of clemency should have even been done a long time ago,” the governor said.

Defensor said that just like other Catholic faithful, he is also looking forward to Pope Francis 5-day visit to the Philippines starting Jan. 15 although he said the security concern would really be a nightmare to places that would be visited.

He said that he is sure though Malacanang is doing everything for the safety of the Pope. (PNA)
