PAREF-Sprindale, USC take trophies in day 1 of 5th Sinulog football cup

CEBU CITY, Jan. 11 — PAREF Springdale and the University of San Carlos (USC)-BED snagged the first two trophies in the opening day of the 5th Sinulog Football Cup Saturday at the San Roque football pitch in Subangdaku, Mandaue City.

Springdale-A topped the Boys Under-18 division with a 3-1 beating of Abellana National School (ANS)-A in the finals.

Springdale-A was the most dominant team in the Under-18 ranks after going unbeaten the whole way.

Springdale-A finished as the No. 1 team in Group A with 10 points from three wins and draw.

Springdale-A demolished Ateneo-A in the quarterfinals, 5-0, and earned a spot in the championships with a 4-0 rout over USC.

ANS-A, on the other hand, also had an impressive campaign, topping Group B with nine points from three wins and a loss.

ANS-A convincingly beat Phoenix FC, 3-0, before earning a ticket to the finals with a 1-0 win over Leylam FC.

USC-BED-A bagged the Boys Under-13 crown with a 2-0 victory over Cebu Dynamo FC.

Dynamo was unbeaten up until the most important match of the tournament, the championships.

USC-BED-A topped Group B with seven points from two wins and a draw, while Dynamo FC finished at the top of Group A with 12 points from an immaculate record of four wins and no defeats.

USC-BED-A beat sister team USC-BED-B, 2-0, in the quarterfinals and Wharshockz, 1-0, in the semi-finals.

Dynamo FC, on the other hand, beat Tabor Hill, 2-0, in the quarterfinals and edged out Phoenix FC, 3-2, in the semi-finals. (PNA)
