ILOILO CITY, Jan. 11 (PNA)- They are trying hard to do better for the future staging of the Iloilo Private Schools Educators Association (IPSEA) Sports and Cultural Integrated Meet held every January of each year.

This was revealed by IPSEA president Dr. Elpidio A. Locsin Jr. during the awarding rites on Friday afternoon held at the Iloilo Sports Complex (ISC) in Lapaz district here that ended the two-day sports competitions of athletic contingents from various participating private schools in the province.

Locsin personally awarded medals to successful winners in various sports disciplines that saw the participation of 24 private elementary and secondary schools out of the more than a hundred schools throughout the province of Iloilo.

Among the lined-up sports disciplines include track and field, chess for both elementary and secondary (boys and girls); ball games both elementary and secondary levels for boys and girls like volleyball, basketball, table tennis, badminton and football boys for elementary and secondary levels.

He said the IPSEA, now in its second year since its maiden launching in January 2014, is hounded by budgetary constraint as member private schools could hardly cope with expenses in staging the activity for several days more instead of the two-day sports activity wherein the schools association has incurred a hefty P25,000 in rental for the sports event.

IPSEA also solicited other support (not cash) like food provisions from prospective sponsors to sustain needs of sports officials and athletes in running the sporting events.

The IPSEA president said that despite the meager budget on the part of the schools association, still they continue to initiate the yearly activity just to continue its existence and prevent its possible extinction.

Locsin believed that IPSEA has moral obligation in motivating and developing school youths through sports and shied them away from dangerous vice like illegal drugs which is the number one menace among youngsters and society.

He said IPSEA is one venue among other various schools sports organization as training grounds to develop and discover potential and caliber athletes to represent the province in future regional and national and seven world class competition.

Hopefully, he said, next year staging of IPSEA which is sanctioned by the Department of Education’s Division of Iloilo, will be a better and improved sports activity among private elementary and secondary schools in the province of Iloilo.

Meanwhile, this year’s sports event has its theme, IPSEA: Excellence through Sports and Arts.(PNA)
