VIENNA, Jan. 8 — Despite a drop in the number of domestic guests staying in Austrian hotels, strong foreign visitor numbers have led to a 0.7 percent increase in the number of overnight stays for the month of November 2014.

Statistics Austria revealed in its latest figures Wednesday that the total overnight stays for the month were 4.28 million, of which 2.29 million stays or an increase of 2.5 percent were foreign visitors.

The number of overnight stays from Austrian guests however dropped 1.4 percent to 1.99 million. The total number of guests meanwhile increased 3.1 percent to 1.75 million.

While November marks the opening of the winter season, it typically only accounts for about 6 percent of hotel stays for the entire season, with the months of January and February most important sharing almost 50 percent of winter overnight stays. (PNA/Xinhua)
