CRESSNOCK, Australia, Jan. 3 — Striker Yohei Toyoda sat out Japan's first training session in australia on Saturday ahead of the Asian Cup with what is believed to be influenza, team media officer Hiroshi Tada said.

"(Toyoda) complained of feeling ill on the journey over here and we suspect he has the flu," Tada told reporters at Cessnock Sportsground.

The players had their flu jabs in November, but Toyoda is the second players to fall ill with the bug in the last few days.

Kashima Antlers midfielder Gaku Shibasaki did not travel to australia after coming down with flu last week, but he could join up with the team on Tuesday.

"He (Shibasaki) has started working out on his own and all going well he could be with us by Tuesday," said Tada.
