BUCHAREST, Dec. 31 — Romania's weather forecaster issued on Tuesday a nationwide bitter freeze alert, warning of a cold front expected to hit the country in the coming days.

Temperatures in Romania will frequently plunge below minus 15 degrees Celsius and even minus 25 degrees Celsius in parts of the country, according to the National Meteorology Administration.

Daytime highs will be between minus 10 degrees Celsius and zero, according to the administration.

Romania was hit by the heaviest snowstorms of this winter over the weekend, when a Code Red warning of snowfalls and blizzard was issued for three eastern counties and Code Orange for many other regions.

Strong winds, heavy snowfalls and low visibility have forced the closure of Black Sea ports, highways, and railways in Romania. (PNA/Xinhua)
