COTABATO CITY, Dec. 30 (PNA) -– Flash floods triggered by light to moderate rain due to typhoon ‘Seniang,’ washed away at least 10 houses in Butig, Lanao del Sur Tuesday, authorities said.

”The Butig river overflowed and rampaging waters hit at least 10 houses along the river banks,” Myrna Angot, officer in charge of the Office of Civil Defense (OCD) in the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM).

Lanao del Sur is one of the component provinces of ARMM with the provinces of Maguindanao, Basilan, Sulu and Tawi-Tawi.

Angot identified the affected villages as Sandak, Gulaman and Sibaran, all in Butig and situated along the Butig river.

”The people were caught unprepared, the flash floods happened so fast,” she told reporters.

Angot said her office is coordinating with the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD-ARMM) for relief assistance to affected families. (PNA)
