Impressive starts for host paddlers

BACOLOD CITY, Dec. 11 (PNA) — Host city Bacolod beat their respective rivals for an impressive start in the opening day of the table tennis competition at the Lopue’s Table Tennis Center at Lopue’s San Sebastian here Wednesday.

Sixth Asean School Games gold medalist Ann Gella Borbon topped Group 1 in girls’ singles as she beat Alexandra Reyes of Sta. Rosa, Laguna and fellow Bacoleña Kiana Ivanica Claver.

Mariella Mabaquiao, ranked No. 1 in girls’ singles Group 6 crushed Krisha Mae Cabaluna of Cebu City and Bacolod teammates Micah Tanate and Neka Daguia to advance into the next round Thursday.

Edria Garganian in Group 7, joined Borbon and Mabaquiao in the No. 1 list after beating Kimberly Ann Sorongon of Iloilo Province, Angeli Batang of Cebu City, and Bacoleña Rycill Kaquilala.

Gem Gellang booked the No. 2 spot in Group 2, with teammates Shiera Villanueva and Allysa Toleco in Group 4 and Group 5, respectively.In boy’s singles, John Michael Castro, Elmer Locsin, and Neil John Lauren in boys’ singles dominated their respective events.

Castro earned 4 points and took the No. 1 spot as he won over his teammates Raymart Perez and Mel John Valdez in Group 3, while Locsin turned back Reynaldo Templado of General Santos and Bacolod teammate Carlo Bercadas in Group 4.

Lauren bested teammates Areanel Ariola and John Carl Yanson in Group 5. (PNA)
