ILOILO CITY, Dec. 7 — One person has been reported to have died due to hypothermia caused by typhoon Ruby.

Iloilo Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (PDRRMC) Officer Jerry Bionat said that they have received report on 65 year old Ernesto Baylon of Bgy. Bayas, Estancia who was already sick and whose condition could have been triggered by the “severe cold” or hypothermia. Baylon was only discovered by his relatives early Sunday morning to have died due to “severe cold” or hypothermia.

He also said that he has still to receive a report of two more persons who also have died. Mayor Juancho Alvarez of Ajuy in an interview by Bombo Radyo Philippines also reported that he also received report that an elderly man had also died in his hometown because of cardiac arrest. He said that he must have died due to so much worry about the typhoon and the storm surge it could cause.

Ajuy is one of the hardest hit towns in northern Iloilo province during last year’s typhoon Yolanda.

The other casualty was in Balasan involving a one year old girl who was also sick before her family had a preemptive evacuation. Because of too much exposure to cold her condition worsened and caused her demise.(PNA)
