All systems go for Bacolod’s hosting of 2014 Batang Pinoy National Finals

BACOLOD CITY, Dec. 3 — It’s all systems go for the staging of the 2014 Batang Pinoy National Championships in Bacolod City and Negros Occidental on December 9 to 13.

The 2013 edition held last January was also hosted by Bacolod after Zamboanga City gave up hosting duties due to security concerns.

Mayor Monico Puentevella said Tuesday the city is expecting around 3,500 delegates from all over the country, including student-athletes aged 15 and below, coaches, sports officials, parents and guardians.

Bacolod will be represented by 261 athletes and 45 coaches, the mayor said.

Puentevella expressed thanks to City Schools Superintendent Cynthia Demavivas for assisting the city in the billeting of the delegations.

Athletes will compete in 26 sporting events. These include boxing (Bays Center), chess (MassKara Hall, Bacolod People’s House), table tennis (Lopue’s San Sebastian), and triathlon (Panaad Park and Stadium).

Events scheduled from December 10 to 13 are arnis, athletics, badminton, 3-on-3 basketball, billiards, cycling, dancesport, futsal, karatedo, lawn tennis, muay thai, rugby football, sepak takraw, softball, swimming, taekwondo, volleyball, weightlifting, wrestling, and wushu.(PNA)
