Gov. Padilla forms local sports body

BAYOMBONG, Nueva Vizcaya, Nov 25 — Governor Ruth Padilla here has formed a local sports body to help the Philippine Sports Commission(PSC) in the implementation of its programs, projects and activities in the province.

Padilla recently issued Executive Order No. 41 Amending Executive Order No. 62 and created the Nueva Vizcaya Physical Fitness and Sports Development Council(NVPFSDC).

NVPFSDC will serve as a provincewide organizational network to assist the PSC in the planning, information dissemination, actual implementation and monitoring of the National Policy and Program called “SPORTS FOR ALL”.

Members of the council will be the Provincial Governor as the Chairman, the Provincial Vice Governor as the Vice Chairman, and the DepED Division Superintendent as the Secretary General. The members are the DILG Provincial Director, a representative from CHED, TESDA and DND, PNP Provincial Director, City/Municipal Mayors League President, SK Federation President and 2 representatives of the private secto.

The council assumes functions and responsibilities such as: meet at least once a month and plan and formulate a blueprint or the sectoral sports based on the National Policy and Program of “SPORTS FOR ALL”, including a well-synchronized year round calendar of sports activities and competitions culminating in a national “PALARONG PAMBANSA”.

Oversee and ensure the implementation of the physical fitness and sports program and activities in their respective areas of concern, i.e. DEPED for Physical Education and School Sports; conduct local “Sports Summits” in consultation with other public and private entities concerned to identify and prioritize sports programs and activities in their respective localities and areas of concern and to monitor, review and validate their program; assist in the identification, recruitment, and training of gifted and talented athletes who will represent the country in the international sports competitions;

Submit a quarterly report to the Chairman of the National PFSDC and furnish a copy of the same to the Philippine Sports Commission and perform other functions deemed necessary to promote and implement the National Policy and Program.

The sports body, Padilla said will also serve as a support body for the upcoming hosting of the Cagayan Valley Regional Athletic Association (CAVRAA) Meet next year. (PNA)
