TACLOBAN CITY, Nov. 14 – Some 120 orphans will benefit from the Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (PhilHealth) second run next year in Eastern Visayas.

Run 2015, a nationwide simultaneous run dubbed, “Philhealth: Ready, TSeKaP, Go,” will be held on February 15, 2015 as one of the agency’s major activities on its 20th year anniversary with the theme “Ensuring Universal Coverage for All Filipinos.”

Likewise, the event will drumbeat the agency’s contribution to the universal healthcare agenda of the Aquino Administration and increase public awareness on the health care benefits and services intended for members.

PhilHealth regional vice president Walter Bacareza said proceeds of the event will be used to finance Kinship Program of SOS Children’s Village in this city.

Funds will be used to ensure the continuity of support given to orphaned children who are based in the community.

“We are targeting around Php500,000 to Php1 million that will be donated to SOS Children’s Village Kinship program,” Bacareza said.

Meanwhile, SOS Children’s Village Director Oscar Garol said the village’ kinship program was created after ‘Yolanda’ wherein children and youth who became orphaned because of the typhoon are given support.

“Orphaned children are now under the watch of their nearest relative, that it is why we called it kinship program.” Garol said.

Beneficiaries will be given support on education, food, and clothing. These children are in storm-ravaged communities of Tacloban City, Palo, and Tanauan in Leyte.

The run will also be launched in major cities like Quezon, Baguio, Dagupan, Tuguegarao, Olongapo, Lucena, Lipa, Naga, Iloilo, Cebu, Tacloban, Davao and Koronadal.

It will carry the theme of the primary care benefit package or TSeKaP to instill among target participants, particularly those belonging to the vulnerable sectors of society the importance of prevention as against costly hospitalization.

In Eastern Visayas, Bacareza said they are planning to launch provincial runs in Catarman in Northern Samar, Calbayog City in Samar, Catbalogan City in Samar, Borongan City in Eastern Samar and other parts of Leyte province.

Registration for the event, which officially started last week, is open to all who are in good physical condition.

Participants can register in any categories such as 3K (kilometer), 5K, 10K, or 20K in PhilHealth offices in Tacloban, Ormoc, Maasin, Catbalogan, Borongan, Catarman, Calbayog, Robinsons Place-Tacloban, Gaisano Central-Tacloban and other partner agencies.

PhilHealth expects at least 60,000 runners from the 13 sites nationwide. (PNA)
