BACOLOD CITY, Nov. 10 — An area adjacent to the Bacolod-Silay Aiport in Negros Occidental is being eyed as the site for the tactical operation center of the Philippine Air Force (PAF) in Western Visayas.

Gov. Alfredo Marañon Jr. said that negotiations are ongoing for the acquisition of the four-hectare lot situated in the northern side of the airport.

"We are dealing with several owners," he said.

At present, the PAF Tactical Operation Group-6 is headquartered in Iloilo.

The plan to transfer the headquarters to Negros Occidental started during the term of retired Gen. Victor Ibrado, then chief of the AFP Central Command.

Under the memorandum of agreement (MOA), the provincial government is tasked to acquire four hectares of land within or near the vicinity of the Bacolod-Silay Airport in Barangay Bagtic, Silay City.

For its part, the PAF will undertake the development, construction and maintenance of structures, and facilities.

Moreover, the MOA stipulates that the PAF will give Negros Occidental priority in extending assistance, or preference to the needs of the province in times of emergency, calamity and similar circumstances, when its services may be needed.

The Philippine Army’s 302nd and 303rd Infantry Brigades in Negros Island at present request air support either from Iloilo or Cebu in times of natural calamities or armed engagement between government troops and local armed insurgents.(PNA)
