ILOILO CITY, Oct. 28 — Ceres-University of St. La Salle (USLS) defended its University Games (UniGames) title against reigning National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) football champion San Beda College, 1-0, in a pressure-packed match of the 19th UniGames at Central Philippine University pitch Tuesday afternoon.

Escalante City-born Ressi Ramos sealed the lone goal at the seventh minute of the first half.

It was the eighth UniGames football title for Ceres-LaSalle, said head coach Freddie “Nene” Lazarito.

Following his team’s goal, Lazarito was ejected from the field, but he said it was just but in the game.

He said it was his emotion as coach, reacting to opportunity for a goal, that was stopped by officiating officials.

Lazarito said he was happy for his players who are part of a rookie-laden team.

He said all his instructions were followed by the players that led them to win the competition without a loss.

Lazarito also thanked his coaching staff and their benefactor Leo Rey Yanson.

“We lost to a good team,” the coaching staff of San Beda College said.
