22,250 Negrense youth register for SK elections

BACOLOD CITY, Oct. 2 — The Commission on Elections (COMELEC) registered a total of 22,250 voters in Negros Occidental for the Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) elections on February 21, 2015.

The registration was conducted from September 20 to 29.Records of the COMELEC Provincial Office showed that 3,595 SK voters were registered in Bacolod City; Bago City, 541; Cadiz City, 635; Escalante City, 829; Himamaylan City, 619; Kabankalan City, 772; La Carlota City, 494; Sagay City, 1,123; San Carlos City, 817; Silay City, 867; Sipalay City, 733;

Talisay City, 224; Victorias City, 914; Binalbagan,550; Calatrava, 1,172; Candoni, 209; Cauayan, 1,010; Don Salvador Benedicto, 258; E.B. Magalona, 705; Hinigaran, 509; Hinobaan, 993; Ilog, 501; Isabela, 867; La Castellana, 469; Manapla, 127; Moises Padilla, 440; Murcia, 326; Pontevedra, 392; Pulupandan, 192; San Enrique, 376; Toboso, 830; and Valladolid, 161.

COMELEC Chairman Sixto Brillantes is asking Congress to postpone the SK elections until after May 2016 so as not to interfere with its preparations for the national elections. Congress has not yet acted on the Comelec's request.

The COMELEC has not yet released the calendar of activities for the SK elections. (PNA)
