BAGUIO CITY, Sept. 3 – The Hotel and Restaurants Association of Baguio (HRAB) will hold the 11th Hotel, Restaurant, Tourism (HRT) weekend on September 11 to be a part of the month long Baguio Charter Anniversary.

The HRT weekend will feature the Rice and Shine: 2.O where the public will be treated to the best fried rice recipes of nine restaurants in the city namely Le Chef of the Manor, Baguio Country Club (BCC), Mario’s, Solibao, Gilligans, Rose Bowl, Alabanza, Golden Pine and Kalapaw.

For the culinary competitions, HRAB hopes to top the 530 competitors that joined last year with the 68 scheduled events for this year, including the Junior Chef edition (for 13 to 17 years old), in different venues around the city.

HRAB president Anthony De Leon, in an interview Wednesday, September 3, said that aside from the competitions, HRT weekend will offer seminars and job fairs for hotel, restaurant and tourism industry students and graduates.

One of the celebration’s highlight is the search for Mr and Mrs HRAB where 40 HRM and Tourism students from the different universities and colleges in Baguio are set to compete on September 12 at the Baguio Convention Center.

De Leon said the HRT Weekend was born 11 years ago primarily to promote Baguio as a culinary destination and for city folks and visitors to have something to look forward to during the rainy season.

He explained that with students and professionals in the culinary and tourism industry in Central and Northern Luzon regularly joining the activity, the event will also be a venue for them to strengthen camaraderie through healthy competitions.

The HRT weekend competitions have already produced a lot of skilled and globally competitive workers who are now working abroad, he said. (PNA)
