MANILA, July 2 – The low pressure area inside the country has slim chance to intensify into a tropical depression, the state weather bureau said on Wednesday.

In an interview, PAGASA weather forecaster Gladys Saludes said that as of 4 p.m. the LPA spotted some 830 km east of Virac, Catanduanes (13.5ºN, 132.9ºE) is still embedded in the Intertropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ).

Saludes said the LPA has slim chance to intensify as it is expected to dissipate if it makes landfall in Luzon.

PAGASA expects two to three storms to hit the country for month of July. She added that the next tropical cyclone that will visit the country will be named “Florita.”

She added the LPA will not yet affect any part of the country but the ITCZ continues to affect Southern Luzon and Visayas.

In the next 24 hours, Saludes said ITCZ will bring light to moderate rains over the Visayas and the regions of Mimaropa (Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon and Palawan), Bicol and Caraga.

She added the rest of the country including Metro manila will experience fair weather except for isolated rainshowers due to localized thunderstorms. (PNA)
