140702090232Nearly 1,600 job order (JO) and contractual workers of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) across Central Visayas will benefit from Social Security System (SSS) coverage as self-employed members under a new partnership between the SSS Cebu Branch and the DSWD Field Office VII, which covers the provinces of Cebu, Bohol, Negros Oriental and Siquijor. The SSS-DSWD agreement provides for the workers’ participation in the e-AlkanSSSya program, making active SSS membership convenient for them since the DSWD will handle the collection and remittance of their monthly contributions to SSS. The e-AlkanSSSya program also addresses the need for social protection of JO and contractual workers in state-run offices, as they are not coverable under the social security program offered by the Government Service Insurance System. An initial batch of 468 JO and contractual workers under the DSWD Field Office VII are now covered by the e-AlkanSSSya program, and hundreds more are expected to follow upon finalization of their SSS registration.
