MANILA, April 8 — Speaker Feliciano Belmonte Jr. on Tuesday lauded the Supreme Court decision declaring the Reproductive Health (RH) Law constitutional.

“I am very pleased with the decision of the Supreme Court, announced in Baguio City, upholding the constitutionality of the Reproductive Health Law,” said Belmonte in a statement.

The Speaker said while there may be provisions that have been limited in scope, the core of the law remains “intact.”

“I am optimistic that when the law finally sees full implementation, it will be a step towards truly safeguarding the health of our numerous Filipino women, many of whom have been awaiting this decision and fought for its final passage into law for the last 16 years,” he stressed.

The Social Weather Station on Monday released their study revealing that 70 percent or 7 out of 10 Filipinos favor the RH Law.

“The release of the Supreme Court decision is thus very timely as well and an indication of our government's effort to be genuinely responsive to the needs of our people, Belmonte emphasized. (PNA)
