MANILA, March 14 — Ombudsman Conchita Carpio Morales ordered on Friday the filing of a criminal case for malversation of public property against former Kapai, Lanao Del Sur Mayor Hadji Ali Aminola Mangurun.

Morales found probable cause against Mangurun for failing to account or return, despite demand, 11 9-mm pistols with 22 magazines and 330 rounds of ammunition, all worth P385,000, as evidenced by the Property Turn-In Slip signed by Mangurun.

Under Article 217 of the Revised Penal Code, "the failure of a public officer to have duly forthcoming any public funds or property with which he is chargeable, upon demand by any duly authorized officer, shall be prima facie evidence that he has put such missing funds or property to personal use."

Morales ordered the filing of the case before the Sandiganbayan. (PNA)
