MANILA, March 4 — Malacanang on Tuesday said that the Philippine National Police (PNP) is currently pursuing perpetrators responsible for last week’s ambush of Mayor George Perrett of Maitum, Sarangani.

Presidential Communications Operations Office (PCOO) secretary Herminio Coloma Jr. said in a Palace briefing that PNP Director General Alan Purisima already issued a directive for intensified efforts to capture perpetrators.

“Nag-issue na ng direktiba si PNP director general Alan Purisima for intensified efforts doon sa assailants ni Mayor Perett,” Coloma said.

Perrett died last Saturday morning of cardiac arrest after the ambush last Friday night.

He was onboard his vehicle when ambushed along the national highway in Sitio Bugo, Barangay Malalag in Maitum.

Coloma assured that the PNP will continue to ensure peace and order in the country especially after the attack.

To provide sharp contrast, the PCOO chief meanwhile said that the PNP was also currently investigating members of the Philippine National Police-Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (PNP-CIDG) in Pampanga.

The PNP-CIDG members were reportedly involved in illegal activities including the recycling of seized illegal drugs. (PNA)
