BIR fetes outstanding taxpayers

MANILA, Feb. 25 – – Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) Commissioner Kim Jacinto-Henares on Tuesday commended companies that are responsible in paying their taxes in 2013.

During the awarding ceremony held at Solaire Resort and Casino for the outstanding taxpayers under the Large Taxpayers Service (LTS), the BIR chief encouraged representatives of the various companies to continue to pay their correct taxes because these are where the government get part of its financing for its various programs and projects.

She said people who love the country have the initiative to give to the government has is due for it to enable it to put the necessary programs that would help both the citizens and the economy.

Among the awardees are Alaska Milk Corp., All Asian Countertrade Inc., BDO Unibank, Inc., Hinatuan Mining Corp., IBM Philippines, Interbev Philippines, Inc., Makati Shangri-La Hotel and Resort Inc., Maybank Philippines, Inc., and Metropolitan Bank &Trust Co. (Metrobank).

The other awardees are Mondelez Philippines, Inc., Nutri-Asia Inc., Orica Philippines, Penpro Inc., Pepsi-Cola Products Philippines Inc., Pfizer, Inc., SM Land, Inc., and Vesta Property Holding, Inc.

Also, the Bank of the Philippine Islands (BPI), Citra Manila Tollways Corp., DMCI Project Developers, Inc., Emperador Distillers, Inc., Holcim Philippines, Inc., Manila Water Co., Inc., Monde Nissin Corp., PMFTC, Inc., Quezon Power (Philippines) Ltd. Co. and Toyota Motor Philippines Corp.

The BIR has strengthened its program against tax evaders resulting to continued growth in tax collection.

In 2013, the agency posted a 15 percent year-on-year jump in its revenues after collecting P1.22 trillion, higher than year-ago’s nearly P1.1 trillion revenues.

It is, however, lower than the agency’s full-year goal of P1.25 trillion.

For 2014, the agency’s collection goal is P1.46 trillion. (PNA)
