MANILA, Feb. 23 — As the Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) decides on the Manila Electric Company’s (Meralco) power rates, Malacanang on Sunday was hopeful that it would still protect the interest of the citizens.

Presidential Communications Operations Office (PCOO) secretary Herminio Coloma Jr. in an interview on state-run dzRB Radyo ng Bayan raised the issue as Meralco continues to push for the lift of the temporary restraining order (TRO) placed by the Supreme Court on the hike.

(“The ERC is an independent body under the law,” Coloma said. “It is their duty to know whether the petition regarding the change in prices of electricity is reasonable or fair.”

(“And we hope that their decision is according to the interest of the citizens and that they uphold the citizen’s welfare when they decide,” he added.)

He further said that the Aquino administration will continue to protect the welfare of its citizens, especially from abuses. (PNA)
