MANILA, Feb. 18 (PNA) -– Department of Energy (DOE) Secretary Carlos Jericho Petilla on Tuesday expressed his gratitude to all participants of the Consultative Dialogue on Epira Review held at the SMX Convention Center, Taguig City.

“Let me express my deepest gratitude to each and every one who selflessly contributed (to this dialogue),” said Petilla, addressing participants/representatives from the power generating and distributing sectors, as well as the business and consumer sectors.

“The government with no excuse, will ensure that there is available supply, at all times even under the so-called market-based environment," he noted.

Petilla admitted that ensuring security of electricity supply at reasonable price is "a difficult task."

"The government cannot do it alone. This is also the reason we are gathered here to be able to seek your suggestions or recommendations for us to do towards achieving supply security, at reasonable cost. Your utmost cooperation is very important in this process," he said.

With the theme “Ensuring Security of Electricity at Reasonable Price,” each sector presented their proposals regarding the EPIRA law, which they also discussed amongst each other.

The final output of this dialogue will be directed to the Joint Congressional Power Commission (JCPC), the Executive Branch and other concerned agencies.

The DOE Secretary also admitted that working in the energy sector has been “complicated” since “there is no single solution to a particular issue, considering all the different perspectives, and human characteristics of stakeholders involved in each particular case.”

“Rest assured that today is not the end of EPIRA discussions but rather a beginning of a continued partnership in working towards improving the implementation of the law,” he concluded. (PNA)
