MANILA, Jan. 31 — The Commission on Elections (Comelec) is now preparing for the continuing voter's registration starting April.

Comelec Spokesperson James Jimenez said they are starting to prepare for the event months before to ensure that everything, including the equipment, is ready.

Jimenez cited the report of Commissioner Grace Padaca about refurbishing some of the voter's registration machines in preparation for the nationwide registration.

Meanwhile, the Comelec official reported that there are about seven to eight million voters who still do not have biometrics.

Jimenez urged the voters to check if their records are up-to-date; otherwise they should update their status.

“We are reminding the people, not just the first-time voters but also those registered voters who do not have biometrics or those who think that their biometrics are unusable already,” he explained.

Jimenez is confident that by 2016, the more than 52 million registered voters will already have their biometrics.

The biometrics technology captures the digital photograph, fingerprints and signature of the voter using the VRM. (PNA)
