Lacierda: Whoever the President anoints, would certainly have an advantage

MANILA, Jan. 22 — Presidential Spokesman Edwin Lacierda on Wednesday said that despite attempts to discredit President Benigno S. Aquino III, his endorsement powers remain “lethal”.

Since the President’s endorsement for the next presidential candidate is crucial in the election, Lacierda said this was the reason why those against him continue to try to pull his ratings down.

Lacierda raised the issue following the many accusations hurled against the President such as his alleged misuse of Disbursement Acceleration Program (DAP) funds and meeting with Sen. Ramon “Bong” Revilla Jr. in connection with the voting for the impeachment of former Chief Justice Renato Corona.

He said that although the President’s detractors want to degrade his approval rating, it was “understandable for those who are not on his camp.”

“The President’s approval ratings have been unprecedented,” he said. “Way past midterm, his numbers are still in the 70s, if you look at other heads of states, past midterm, their numbers are already in the 40s.”

“It shows that the President has the trust of the people, has the faith of the people, and has the people behind him,” he added.

“The power of the President’s endorsement is lethal,” he said. “It is effective and that’s the reason why the — whoever the President would anoint, would certainly have an advantage.”

Lacierda also said that as far as the administration was concerned, they would continue to work to improve the life of Filipinos and lead them to a “straight path”. (PNA)
