SC orders parties on power rate hike case to submit necessary documents

MANILA, Jan. 21 — It took more than five hours to finish the oral arguments on the power rate hike case at the Supreme Court (SC) on Tuesday.

However, before the end of the hearing, Chief Justice Maria Lourdes P. Aranal Sereno ordered the Department of Energy (DOE), Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC), Manila Electric Company (Meralco), Philippine Electricity Market Corporation (PEMC), Wholesale Electricity Spot Market (WESM)), National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP), Power Sector Assets and Liabilities Management Corporation (PSALM), and the generating companies to submit necessary documents.

Among the documents ordered to be submitted before the SC are the following:

— Philippine Energy Plan and Power Development Program from 2010 to 2013;

— WESM Rules and Manuals, including the amended provision in their regulations;

— list of all the power plants, including their owners and stockholders; and

— power supply agreement, bilateral agreement and other related documents signed by Meralco and the power plants.

The SC gave the said agencies and corporations a period of until Jan. 30, 2014 to submit the required documents.

The conduct of the next oral arguments on the power rate hike was set on Feb. 4, 2014 at 2 p.m. (PNA)
