MANILA, Jan. 14 — The Office of Civil Defense (OCD) on Tuesday said the number of people killed by the low pressure area (LPA) induced flash floods and landslides in Mindanao has now reached 23.

Fourteen others are still missing as of this posting.

The deaths can be broken down into eight in Davao Oriental, six in Dinagat Islands, five in Compostela Valley, one in Agusan Del Sur, one in Misamis Occidental, one in Zamboanga Del Sur and one in Zamboanga Del Norte.

Most of the deaths are attributable to landslides.

Floods and landslides caused by rains have already forced 40,640 families or 199,327 persons to evacuate homes in Northern Mindanao, Southern Mindanao, and CARAGA.

The rains, which started on Friday, are being brought about by a LPA. (PNA)
