San Pablo City stages tourism hall of famer '19th Coconut Festival'

SAN PABLO CITY, Laguna, Jan. 7 -– City government organizers officially opened Tuesday the 19th Coconut Festival Trade Fair fronting the city's Library Hub.

San Pablo Mayor Loreto S. Amante led city folks and constituents in the half-month celebration of the “Best Tourism Event Festival Category City Level Hall of Fame” for reaping the three consecutive win for the coveted title.

The city’s “Coconut Festival” garnered last year’s “Pearl Award” as Hall of Famer during the 14th National Convention of the Department of Tourism (DOT)–Association of Tourism Officers of the Philippines (ATOP) in Legazpi City, Albay.

Mayor Amante takes pride for organizing the “Coco Festival” when he was the City Administrator prior to his election as city mayor by serving as chairman of the San Pablo Coconut Festival and Trade Fairs Committee in previous years.

San Pableños will be treated to Tuesday’s Opening Salvo and Fireworks Display to brighten the city skyline and the DepEd Night at the City Plaza main stage.

Preliminary events were also held with the shooting competitions firing up the weekend in Sitio Biuyan and Santo Angel here.

SM City San Pablo atrium also hosted the Talent Day for the Munting Lakan at Mutya for children’s category and the teens’ division for the Lakan at Mutya.

The shopping mall events arena also staged the Talent Day for the Ms. Gay tilt on Sunday and the United Pastors Council Night on Monday.

Laguna 3rd District Rep. Sol Aragones will play host to the Ms. Gay Cocofest search on Wednesday at the main stage of the City Plaza.

On January 9 and 10, the quest for the Munting Lakan at Mutya 2014 and the teen version for San Pablo’s Lakan at Mutya 2014 will take place also at the City Plaza.

Activities lined up for Saturday (Jan. 11) include the fun run hosted by the Franklin Baker Company; Accounting Quiz Bowl of the Philippine Institute for Certified Public Accountants at the San Pablo Central School.

The 2nd Coco Amazing Race will be held at the City Plaza main stage simultaneous with the Coco Start 2014 Grand Finale at SM City San Pablo events arena and will spice the evening with the San Miguel Night.

The second leg of the Coco Amazing Race will continue on Jan. 12 with the Battle of the Bands sponsored by the Rotary Central at the City Plaza main arena.

The 19th Coconut Festival will be highlighted with the Coco Carnival Queen, Grand Float Parade and the Annual Street Dancing Competitions on Jan. 13 at the City Plaza.

Laguna Governor Jeorge ER Ejercito Estregan will also play host to the Governor’s Night on Monday (Jan. 13).

The Old Capitol Building will be the site of the on-the-spot Coco Art Contest sponsored by the Pableños Group of Artists on Jan. 14, followed by the evening socials with the Sangguniang Panlungsod Night hosted by the city councilors.

On Jan. 15, the Banda Siklaban will be staged at the City Plaza main stage.

Also, Mayor Amante will officially lead culminating rites of the yearly Coco Festival celebration with the City Government Night and the Fireworks Display. (PNA)
