MANILA, Jan. 8 — Manila Mayor Joseph Ejercito Estrada ordered on Wednesday the suspension of work in all city government offices during the Manila International Pilgrimage of the Black Nazarene on Thursday.

The suspension of work in the city government offices in Manila was recommended by the Manila Police District, the Manila Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office and the Manila Traffic and Parking Bureau to ensure public order, safety and convenience.

Not included in the suspension order, Estrada said in Executive Order No. 42, are those involved in the maintenance of peace and order, traffic enforcement, disaster risk reduction and management, health and sanitation.

The suspension of work in national government offices and in all private offices in Manila is left to the discretion of the heads of office or management, he said in the order.

Estrada had earlier suspended classes in all levels in the city.

It is expected that more than 12 million devotees of the Black Nazarene will attend the procession on Thursday. (PNA)
