Myanmar President Thein Sein state visit on Dec. 4 to 6

MANILA, Nov. 25 — Myanmar President Thein Sein will undertake a state visit to the Philippines from December 4 to 6 upon the invitation of President Benigno S. Aquino III, the Department of Foreign Affairs said on Monday.

This is Thein Sein’s first state visit to the Philippines since his assumption to office in 2011. The last head of state from Myanmar who visited the Philippines was Prime Minister Soe Win in 2005.

Aquino and Thein Sein had their first bilateral meeting in Nay Pyi Taw on June 7, 2013 at the World Economic Forum on East Asia hosted by Myanmar.

In Manila, the two leaders will discuss issues of mutual concern, particularly in the areas of trade and investment, agriculture, energy, cultural exchanges and information cooperation, among others.The two leaders will also discuss regional issues, including Myanmar’s historic chairmanship of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) in 2014.

The Philippines and Myanmar established diplomatic relations in 1956. (PNA)
