MANILA, Nov. 20 (PNA) — The Commission on Higher Education on Wednesday directed its Central, Regional Offices and Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) to help alleviate the condition of affected students in areas severely hit by supertyphoon "Yolanda" by extending any form of assistance.

CHED Chairperson Patricia Licuanan said she has ordered all HEIs to admit affected student enrollees or transferees who are unable to present proper academic records due to disruption of HEI operations that result to pending of the resumption of their regular operations and proper processing of documents.

Licuanan also ordered the provision by HEIs and other stakeholders of full support and other appropriate assistance such as emergency financial aid to help the students meet basic needs for food, water and temporary accommodation.

According to her, she also ordered for the extension by the CHED Office of Student Services of its resources and services, including financial assistance, counselling services and accommodations in appropriate cases.

She cited that HEIs extending assistance to affected students are enjoined to submit a report to CHED on details of their activities and assistance to students.

She said that the report should be updated weekly if possible.

“These reports will enable CHED’s assessment of the situation on the ground as well as the consolidation of the short- and medium-term logistical requirements for rehabilitation in higher education,” she added.
