Classes suspended in Metro Manila, affected provinces due to super typhoon 'Yolanda' (Haiyan)

MANILA, Nov. 8 — With super typhoon "Yolanda" (international name Haiyan) now battering the country, several local governments in Metro Manila and affected provinces have announced the suspension of classes mostly in all levels on Friday.

According to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA), Metro Manila is now under public storm warning Signal No. 2.

Among the areas which suspended classes were:

– Makati City — preschool to high school, both in public and private schools;

– Pasig City — all levels, public and private;

– Navotas City — all levels, public and private;

– San Juan City — all levels, public and private;

– Pasay City — all levels, public and private;

– Pateros — all levels, public and private;

– Muntinlupa City — all levels, public and private;

– Cavite province — all levels, public and private;

– Rizal province — all levels, public and private;

– Laguna province — all levels;

– Bacolod City (all levels);

– Bacoor (all levels);

– Batangas (all levels);

– Baybay, Leyte (all levels);

– Biliran (all levels);

– Bohol (all levels);

– Borongan City (all levels);

– Butuan City (all levels);

– Camarines Sur province (all levels);

– Cebu Province (all levels);

– Compostela Valley province (all levels);

– Daet, Camarines Norte (all levels);

– Dumaguete City (all levels);

– Eastern Samar (all levels);

– Imus, Cavite (all levels);

– Kawit, Cavite (all levels);

– Lapu-Lapu City (all levels);

– Mandaue City (all levels);

– Mendez, Cavite (preschool to high school);

– Negros Oriental (all levels);

– Quezon Province (all levels);

– Sorsogon City (all levels);

– Southern Leyte (all levels);

– Surigao del Norte (all levels);

– Tagaytay City (all levels); and

– Tagum City (all levels).

Meanwhile, the following universities also announced work and class suspensions through various social media accounts:

Bicol University (classes in all levels);

Ateneo de Manila University (classes in all levels);

Adamson University (classes in all levels);

Far Eastern University (work and classes in all levels);

College of St. Benilde (work and classes in all levels);

St. Scholastica's College Manila (classes in all levels); and
