LINGAYEN, Pangasinan, Sept. 30 — The province of Pangasinan has been cited by the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) as the 2012 National Best PESO Award for the first class provincial category.

PESO, which stands for Provincial Employment Service Office (PESO), is DOLE's partner in helping workers in the provinces land local and overseas employment and protect them from the illegal recruiter.

Pangasinan PESO Chief Alex Ferrer said the national award was given by DOLE during the recently concluded 13th National PESO Congress on September 24-27 at The Oriental Hotel in Palo, Leyte.

“Finally, we’ve got it,” Ferrer said in an interview where he revealed that the province has been consistently in the list of nominees since 2007 but failed to get the top award.

Ferrer said that this year, the province bested nine other best performing provinces for the most prestigious award including the provinces of Cebu, Tarlac, Rizal Province, and Cagayan Valley.

Asked why Pangasinan bagged the award, Ferrer said the province’s PESO has been at par with the objectives of Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) which are to promote and deliver its programs to the people.

Ferrer likewise attributed the award to the agency’s accomplishments on job placement, labor market information, career guidance and employment coaching, implementation of DOLE programs and the province’s numerous awards for its employment programs.

Ferrer thanked Governor Amado T. Espino, Jr. for instilling excellence among employees which he believed has inspired him and his staff “to work beyond what is expected” for the people of Pangasinan. (PNA)
