MANILA, Sept. 17 — The 17,000-strong National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) has been placed on heightened alert Tuesday night due to the ongoing standoff in Zamboanga City and the two explosions that hit major malls in Davao City Monday night.

Police Chief Supt. Marcelo Garbo Jr., NCRPO director, said police have not received any intelligence reports of similar attacks in Metro Manila but they are not taking any chances.

With the heightened alert status, policemen are to secure vital installations and monitor crowded areas like malls, bus terminals, jeepney stops, airports and seaports.

Garbo also said that they have enough policemen to secure the metropolis.

The stepped-up security in metropolis came about after two major malls in Davao City were hit by separate explosions caused by improvised explosive devices (IED) Monday evening.(PNA)
