Death toll in Zamboanga City standoff climbs to 62

MANILA, Sept. 16 — With the stand-off in Zamboanga City now on its second week, the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) announced that the death toll in the fighting has now reached 62.

Major Angelo Guzman, AFP public affairs office deputy chief, said that this is as of 7 p.m. Sunday.

This can be broken down into:

-AFP: 3 killed, 63 wounded

-Philippine National Police: 3 killed, 10 wounded

-Civilians: 5 killed, 23 wounded

-MNLF elements: 51 killed, 9 wounded and 48 captured.

Guzman also said that the number of hostages is placed at 183.

He added that the number of hostages released is placed at seven, 14 escaped and six were rescued. (PNA)
