PHILTOA kicks off Philippines Tourism Week with Trabaho sa Turismo

MANILA, Sept. 4 -– The Philippine Tour Operators Association's (Philtoa), in cooperation with the Department of Tourism (DOT) and jobsDB.com launched the first Philippine Tourism Week on Wednesday through ‘Trabaho sa Turismo’ (TST), a yearly tourism-focused job fair of the DOT.

The job fair is part of a 5-day event, organized by PHILTOA for the national tourism week, under the banner: ‘The Business of Tourism: For the People, By the People, Of the People’.

PHILTOA President Cezar Cruz, DOT Accreditation Division officer-in-charge Maria Corazon Guerrero and jobsDB.com country manager Sheryll Tiburcio and some Department of Labor and Employment representatives led the job fair which was held at SM Mall of Asia Music Hall in Pasay City from 10am to 5pm.

For this year’s TST, hundreds of jobseekers, mostly Tourism and Hotel and Restaurant Management (HRM) graduates applied to 20 participating companies in the tourism industry that offered luxury hotel and travel agency positions to jobseekers.

Participating include the Canadian Tourism and Hospitality Institute, Ascott Limited, Philippines, Regent Travel Corporation, TRIPS, Plantation Bay Resort and Spa, Jeepney Tours Hon-on Hop-off Travel Inc., Asia Travel, Rajah Travel, Ark Travel Express Inc., The Legend Hotels International Corporation, Microtel Hotels and Resorts, BC Travel and Tours Corp., Network Hotel Management Corp., Batanes Wakat Travel and Tours, Sofitel Philippine Plaza Manila, Mango Tours and Travel Inc., Seda Hotel and Discovery Suites.

PHILTOA also facilitated a career seminar during the job fair, to guide jobseekers in applying for certain positions in the tourism industry.

Speakers from Canadian Tourism and Hospitality Institute were able to discuss the overview of the travel and tourism industry, front office operations, personality development, food and beverage services, professional housekeeping, and of course how to get a job in the travel and tourism industry.

The job fair is one of PHILTOA’s activies this week, in an effort to sustain the rapid growth of domestic tourism and to achieve the 10 Million international tourist arrivals in 2016.

The week-long celebration aims to create higher level of awareness on the benefits of a successful Philippine tourism industry through nationwide cooperation and participation of the country’s leading tourism private and government associations and institutions. (PNA)
