MANILA, Aug. 7 – Following the series of blasts that rocked parts of Maguindanao for the past few weeks, military and police units in the province will be on alert this Eid'l Fitr eve Thursday.

This is to preempt possible attacks by lawless group, Maguindanao police commander Sr. Supt. Rodelio Jocson said.

He added that his men will coordinate with their counterparts in the military to hold checkpoints and monitoring to prevent further attacks.

"We will continue coordinating with the Armed Forces of the Philippines. We will hold checkpoint and monitoring operations to thwart these lawless groups," he said.

Many in the Filipino Muslim community are expected to start preparations for Eid'l Fitr, the feast marking the end of the holy month of Ramadan.

Earlier Wednesday, an improvised explosive device exploded at the roadside in Barangay Nabundas in Shariff Saydona Mustapha town.

At least seven soldiers on their way to their battalion were wounded in the incident.
