COTABATO CITY, July 26 - Another suspect in the grizzly Maguindanao massacre arrested Thursday will be brought to Manila Friday (today) by agents of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG).
Chief Inspector Jovit Culaway, deputy chief of the CIDG in the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (CIDG-ARMM) said Mama Nomba Habib, a member of the private militia of the massacre primary suspect, the Ampatuan clan, will be turned over to the custody of the Regional Trial Court that is hearing the infamous Maguindanao massacre case.
Habib, 43, was arrested by CIDG-ARMM operatives backed by elements of the 45th Infantry Battalion in Barangay Manongkaling, Mamamasapano, Maguinanao at 3:00 p.m. Thursday. He did not resist arrest but vehemently denied he was directly involved in the carnage.
Culaway said a tipster from Mamasapano town who he did not identify informed the CIDG about the presence of Habib in the village.
About three weeks ago, police agents in Midsayap, North Cotabato arrested Bong Andal, the alleged backhoe operator who buried the massacre victims and the vehicles in a hilly Sitio Masalay, Barangay Salman, Ampatuan, Maguindanao on November 23, 2009.
Andal told reporters he was directed by former Mayor Andal Ampatuan Jr. to bury all the vehicles and the massacre victims.
Culaway said Habib was not armed when arrested.
He was among the 197 identified suspects in the carnage led by the Ampatuan patriarch and his sons, his namesake ex-Mayor Andal Ampatuan Jr. and ARMM Governor Zaldy Ampatuan. (PNA)
