MANILA, July 23 — Two super bantamweights will likely figure out in world title fights if they impress promoters come July 27 in Paranaque City.

Comebacking 24-year-old Eden Sonsona (32-6 with 10 KOs) is pitted against Daniel Ferreras while Richard Pumicpic (12-5 with 4 KOs) will go up against Richard Betos in another 10-rounder promoted by Baguio-based businessman/sportsman Anson Tiu Co in memory of the late boxing analyst Ramon “Moy” Lainez and “In this Corner” TV program.

Sonsona, of Sindangan, Zamboanga del Norte, won his last six fights while Pumicpic is a last minute replacement for Bernabe Concepcion who recently injured his shoulder during training and will at least need two months to fully recuperate, including rehabilitation.

“If one of them will win, then maybe they can vie for a world title,” said Co in the Tuesday weekly Philippine Sportswriters Association (PSA) Forum at Shakey’s Malate.

Co, is the owner of Shape Up boxing gym where world eight-division champion and Surigao Congressman Manny Pacquiao trains before leaving for coach Freddie Roach’s boxing gym in California.

Spicing the battles of Sonsona and Pumicpic are undefeated lady boxers Benguet bet Jessabelle Pagaduan and Carleans Rivas who will go all-out for the Philippine minimumweight title at the Barangay San Dionisio covered court in Paranaque City.

Both women said whoever will last atop the ring will be given the chance to fight abroad within the next few months. (PNA)
