CANDABA, Pampanga, July 12 — The municipal government here has allocated funds for the purchase of a lot for the construction of a material recovery facility (MRF) to address the growing problem on solid waste.

Town mayor Rene Maglanque said the Sangguniang Bayan members have given him a free hand in the purchase of lot that will be used for the MRF.

Maglanque said he will urge his constituents to practice waste segregation to avoid flooding in their town, which is one of those prone to flooding during heavy rains.

Last Tuesday, Gov. Lilia Pineda, in a meeting with Pampanga mayors, renewed efforts in solving the garbage problem in the province.

The governor urged the mayors for the construction of MRFs for each municipality, as she pushed for waste segregation as highlighted in the Ecological Solid Waste Management Act.

She offered P3 million to every LGU who will comply with the construction of MRFs and waste segregation.

The governor also appealed to Kapampangans to be more responsible when disposing of waste.

Records showed that the province produces between 800 to 900 metric tons of garbage per day. (PNA)
