Batangas gives free school supplies to Grade 1 pupils in public elem schools

BATANGAS CITY June 11 -– The Batangas provincial government launched its free school supplies to all Grade 1 pupils in the province starting this June as the school calendar 2013-2014 opened.

The school supplies freebies are spearheaded by the Batangas Provincial School Board to benefit some 65,861 Grade 1 students in the public elementary schools.

Batangas reelected Governor Vilma Santos Recto focuses her education priority for school children and the youths as summed up in her governance thrust through the acronym – HEARTS – where E stands for Education.

Governor Santos Recto initiated the project to benefit thousands of school children in public elementary schools where the vast majority come from poor families.

Under the program, each Grade 1 student received the school supplies packet containing basic items as pencil, notepad, crayon, notebooks.

According to the provincial school board officials, the school supplies assistance also aims to inspire and motivate the school kids into attending classes.

At the same time, the low-income parents are also motivated to encourage their children to continue their education assured of the local government’s support for free school supplies.

The project also eases the burden of school expenses on miscellaneous school supplies and other items.

Meanwhile, public school principals and education supervisors here reported that the Batangas teacher to student ratio is 1:40.

They also expressed that the ratio represents a comfortable, spacious and conducive learning atmosphere where the teacher conducts classes with 40 students only to a classroom. (PNA)
