MANILA, June 6 – Senate President Pro-Tempore Jinggoy Estrada on Thursday said the Philippine consulate in Hong Kong must step in following the rude treatment the Azkals and Filipino supporters received from the HK football fans.

”Our Philippine consulate must step in. They should protect our countrymen in Hongkong. Throwing bottle of mineral waters on our countrymen is not acceptable,” Estrada said in a Senate media forum.

The Philippine Azkals defeated the Hong Kong football squad, 1-0, for the first time in a friendly match last Tuesday at the at the Mong Kok Stadium in Kowloon, Hong Kong.

”They are poor losers. That was only a friendly football game and they treated our players and Filipino supporters that way,” Estrada said.

Estrada, however, said the incident do not require diplomatic protest.

”Perhaps it’s an isolated case but it’s unfortunate incident,” he said.

Reports said the Hong Kong fans even called the Azkal players and Filipino supporters a ‘slave nation.’ (PNA)
