6 die, 8 hurt in Innova, 10-wheeler truck collision in Maguindanao

COTABATO CITY, June 4 — Six persons were killed, including a driver, while six others were hurt when a speeding Toyota Innova van collided with a 10-wheeler truck in Maguindanao Tuesday, police here said.
Chief Insp. Harry Gubat, police chief of Parang, Maguindanao, said the victims were all passengers of the Innova heading toward Cotabato City from Malabang, Lanao del Sur.
Police said, quoting witnesses, the Innova and the 10-wheeler truck were both speeding when they collided in a sharp curve in Barangay Sarmiento at 2 p.m.
Gubat said the identities of the victims were temporarily withheld until their next of kin will be official informed.
The eight other wounded passengers are now being treated in hospitals in Cotabato City.
Gubat said traffic investigators could not say at this time who was at fault as the truck driver and his helper were also injured.
The well-paved portion of highway in Barangay Sarmiento that links Cotabato City and Marawi City had been identified as "killer" highway dur to numerous vehicular accidents in the past that claimed lives. (PNA)
