MANILA, June 4 — Three members of the 4th Infantry Division's 29th Infantry Battalion were killed while another one was wounded after New People's Army guerrillas detonated a landmine in Sitio Buhisan, San Agustin town, Surigao Del Sur Tuesday morning.

The incident took place around 9:50 a.m. as 29th Infantry Battalion troopers were poised to capture a rebel training facility in the vicinity, military sources said Tuesday.

Before this could be done, 30 heavily-armed rebels appeared out of nowhere and detonated a landmine, causing severe losses to the soldiers.

Brig. Gen. Ricardo Visaya, 4th Infantry Division officer-in-charge, declined to identify the fatalities and wounded pending notification of the latter's next-of-kin.

Pursuit operations are now being conducted against the rebel band. (PNA)
