MANILA, May 29 — Justice Secretary Leila M. De Lima on Wednesday reiterated the investigation being conducted by authorities from Taiwan is separate from the one being conducted by an investigating team from the Philippines in connection with the Balintang Channel incident.

However, De Lima said, both sides can tackle their respective findings.

De Lima clarified no one from the teams from the Philippines and Taiwan can impose on the result of their respective investigation.

De Lima said it was the essence of a parallel investigation contrary to the principle of a joint probe.

Nevertheless, De Lima did not rule out the possibility that the findings of the two investigating teams will be exactly the same or similar in some aspects or entirely different from each other.

De Lima said it will depend on the assessment of the evidences gathered in the investigation.

De Lima made the clarification following the surfacing of information that both sides of Taiwan and the Philippines should agree on their findings. (PNA)
